Activism in a post-capitalist society based on solidarity
by Janina Rooks (Youth for Climate Köln)
Open fishbowl discussion with 2 fixed seats
- Language: German
- Duration: 1.5 hours
- In person
What’s it about?
Using a recent political event as a starting point, we will try to develop a shared stance on this event in a spirit of solidarity, thereby discovering and practising approaches that we can incorporate into our everyday lives.
We will briefly introduce the concept of single and double quota systems from activist practice. We will then turn to the concepts of awareness and non-violent communication as a framework for the discussion, focusing in particular on the underlying understandings of (fellow) humanity and the respective practices of mindful interaction with one another.
We will briefly practise the 6 steps of NVC (new) together:
- Observing the situation
- Identifying one’s own feelings
- Identifying one’s own needs
- Formulating a request
- Taking responsibility for one’s own needs
- Appreciating the situation and expressing gratitude
We will then attempt, within the framework of the discussion, to engage with the current event and reach a shared position using one of the three methods:
- Voting
- Consensus
- Consent
without overstepping boundaries amongst participants both within and outside the circle.
Aim of the contribution
Radical solidarity in everyday life – how can a spirit of solidarity be fostered within a structure and have an external impact, using a specific issue as an example
