Connected Rather Than Chained

Practices of Solidarity-Based Relationships Beyond Discrimination and Privilege

This workshop explores how solidarity-based, egalitarian relationships can be developed in concrete ways.

The session begins with a brief, accessible introduction to key perspectives in discrimination research as well as concepts of privilege and identity. Building on this foundation, interactive methods will be used to enable participants to recognize and reflect on their own entanglements in relationships of inequality.

The focus is on experiential exercises drawn from political education and democracy training that stimulate both individual and collective reflection. The goal is to bring to light both experiences of discrimination and privileges and to discuss their impact on practices of solidarity. The workshop thus creates a space in which inequality is analyzed theoretically, experienced firsthand, and subsequently reflected upon.

Methodologically, the workshop utilizes formats such as the Privilege Walk, discrimination reflection cards, and the World Café format, among others.

The focus is on self-reflection, exchange, and collective learning.

Possible thematic focuses include classism, antisemitism, putophobia, sexism, and queerphobia.
